"Slip box" note taking scheme.
Zettelkasten notes are characterized by small note-cards that feature:
- A unique identifier
- The body of the note
- Source or reference information for the source of knowledge
- This can be omitted if the source is original thought
The [[Wikipedia]] article doesn't cover much, but there are plenty of sites around that go over the method:
- [A Beginner’s Guide to the Zettelkasten Method](https://zenkit.com/en/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-the-zettelkasten-method/)
- [Introduction to the Zettelkasten Method](https://zettelkasten.de/introduction/)
## Zettelkasten's use in the Athenaeum
As called out in the [[Athenaeum]] description, the Zettelkasten structure is utilized for notes that don't fit into one of the several hierarchical structures represented as folder hierarchies. As such, it is the default location for new *permanent* notes. Transitory notes go in `Inbox/` where they periodically get archived or rewritten as permanent notes.
