There's what appears to be an old fiber optic plant going into the parking garage of my condo. Nothing is using it, and clearly hasn't for some time. Attached was a [TrendNet TFC-210 MST 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX](https://www.trendnet.com/products/product-detail?prod=115_TFC-210MST) media converter with the CAT5(e) end cut off. It *looks* like the CAT5e cable that was attached to the media converter is now attached to a twisted pair (DSL) patch box right next to it. There are green tape tags on the cable that says "OLD FIRE", indicating it was *likely* used previously for the fire suppression system. It is unclear who owns this cable, but it's very likely there is nothing hooked up on the other end. The fiber optic cable itself is a [Berk-Tek Uni-lite](https://objects.accu-tech.com/PD311030.PDF) which appears to be about 850 feet long, putting the other end somewhere in this circle: ![[Pasted image 20240717224521.png]] AT&T claims it is not theirs. I have been unable to get in contact with the City of Madison to confirm whether it is theirs or not. One potential idea is to go to the fire station down the road and ask them about it. ## Photos ## [[ResTech]] I discovered that ResTech provides service to this address, selling 100Mbps internet. It's not clear what type of connection this is, but it's cheap. Calling them. Cannot get a hold of sales. **Upload:** symmetric, 100mbps **Transport Medium:** unknown Next available time is tomorrow, late morning or early afternoon. Signed up for service, but I may need to talk to Steve about renegotiating the contract for higher speeds, which should be possible. Signed up for service, will see if they can upgrade the service level. It's likely that the fiber line is ResTech's. **Update:** ResTech "no longer offers internet service" here and claims the fiber cable is not theirs. They claim something about "right to enter" (ROE) and a contract with the condo association that may or may not have ever existed. It's very unclear what happened and why. They have since removed Town Center Condominiums from their serviced locations. # Fighting AT&T https://www.reddit.com/r/ATTFiber/comments/1eswf3d/comment/li9bn23/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/caqco5/how_to_petition_for_fiber/etak34e/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/caqco5/how_to_petition_for_fiber/etak34e/ # AT&T Round 2 They say I get AT&T Fiber now, but it still only says I can get 25x5 copper service.
